83, 11 minutes. from 695 outer loop from 79 to 95, you're looking pretty good with 11 minute commute and 95 north from 695 to the fort mchenry tunnel, just about eight minutes. weather and traffic in less than ten once again. charlie? anne arundel county police have been on the scene of a drowning overnight. this happened in the brooklyn park area and abc2 news' sherrie johnson has new information this morning. >> reporter: i've been in contact with anne arundel county police. we have confirmed that a 4-year- old child has drowned at a pool at a home in brooklyn park in anne arundel county. we have video from the scene. police tell us the child was found in the pool at the home at 601 old riverside road. now that call came in about 9:50 last night. the child was taken to harbor hospital and police are still investigating this case. they were on the scene as of 30 minutes ago. this case officers spent most of the night scouring the area trying to figure out exactly

what happened here. now we'll continue to check in with the officers throughout the morning to gather the very latest information. once again, we have confirmed that a 4-year-old child has drowned at a pool in a home in brooklyn park in anne arundel county. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. as you heard mike say we are in for another coverager today and that's why the health department extended the current code red alert through today for all of maryland. this means that heat and humidity will be high enough and could result in heatstroke and heat exhaustion. as a result of that cooling centers will be open once again today. they're in places where people can take a break from air- conditioning and get some much- needed water and try to beat the heat and do everything you think in these dangerous -- you can in these dangerous temperatures. >> it seems to me that residents utilize the cooling centers as an opportunity to get out of the heat for a short period. people seem to think they're open rails like chillers -- operating like shelters which really isn't the case.

>> we have a full list and addresses on abc2news.com. underneath the news section. once again abc2news.com for those cooling centers. for the latest now on power outages we just checked the website for bge and right now 54,000 people still in the dark at the beginning of "good morning maryland," just a few hours ago that number was closer to 57,000. 24,000 on baltimore county, that's the big number. 14,000 in baltimore city and no power means no air-conditioning and with the heat it is downright miserable. megan pringle is out live at one neighborhood in baltimore county and we're being told now the power isn't coming back on until late into the weekend but some people they've got their power back megan? >> reporter: some people woke up with power this morning charlie. now if you walk around the naked you can see a lot of scars from the deadly storms that happened last week. for example take a look at this tree. you can see -- it fell on this fence. felt on some power lines and that's the problem for this neighborhood. that's why a lot of people don't have power yet but take a look. crews are working on it. you can see that's ron up there

with bge, he's been on the job for a couple of years and says -- [ indiscernible ] 16 hour shifts and as you know, it's hot. so it's not only hot for the crews working out here but also for the people who don't have power. and i know that people who don't have power -- [ indiscernible ] >> all right, we've got some technical problems there with peg began and we're going to -- megan and we're going to get those fixed and get back to her. traffic alert for you on this thursday morning. the water main break on york road has been fixed. but there are still some delays you need to be aware of. one lane on each side of york road will still be closed during the morning rush today. this is going to impact people who drive on york between warren and shawan roads. crews expect to get the entire road back up and running some time later this afternoon. well, the fourth of july parades are big and a huge part

the fbi will shut down some temporary servers it used to help break up a fraud ring but a computer virus is still forcing the users on to the servers. they'll need to remove the virus to get back online. a new device can convert the two dimensional videos and games into 3d. it's called the io gear 3d complete plus box but "usa today's" ed baig was not impressed. >> unfortunately, the effects are fairly modest. certainly not enough to justify the $200 cost. >> and the new "spider-man" app gives kids an interactive storybook to read here and play. -- hear and play. it's called the spiderman ar book hd for ios and costs $5. both the new movie and app are produced by disney abc's parent company. those are your techbytes, i'm sunny hostin. @

it's 11 minutes after 6:00. thanks for staying with you. dazzling fireworks and the parade and pomp and circumstance and also throw in a hot dog or two. as american celebrates its independence. abc's melissa rainey has the story. >> reporter: the night sky lit up above cities and towns across the united states. in washington the fireworks show went on as planned despite the tens of thousands who remained without power in the surrounding regions. some towns canceled their fireworks shows because of the dangerously dry conditions and high temperatures. others opted to focus on recovery efforts from the weekend's damaging storms. ♪ at the white house the president hosted military service members and their families. >> candidates, please raise your right hand. >> reporter: and a group of

active duty u.s. service members took the oath of allegiance to become u.s. citizens. it was one of several ceremonies across the country. and don't forget the parades. here's the big one in the nation's capital. in indiana the governor led the parade which was ravaged by tornadoes in march. >> we admire the people here and the way they handled it and coming back from it. >> reporter: it was the town's 182nd consecutive independence day parade. >> longest running in america. >> reporter: in atlanta more than 60,000 people pounded the pavement in the annual peachtree road race. and it's not the fourth of july without nathan's hot dog eating contest in coney island. the men and women had separate competitions and the winners are? >> ladies and gentlemen, joey chestnutt! the world record, sonya the black widow thomas, ate 45! >> reporter: melissa rainey. abc2 news. >> i still can't watch that video. a huge disappointment for spectators in california who came out for one fireworks show. it was a technical difficulty resulting in all fireworks going off at once. i call it premature detonation. it was supposed to be a 17 minute show and instead, it lasted about 26 seconds. luckily no one was hurt and people were waiting for the show, they were told to simply go home and some were seen muttering that's it? the whole thing was over? mike masco before it ever started. >> it was a tweet the guy said i had a better display in my backyard with bottle rockets. one big boom and then it's over and everyone goes home. >> all many money down the -- that money down the drain or at least in 20 seconds. >> it's a wonderful business and you are giving someone money to burn. >> exactly. well put sir. >> little weather? >> let's do the weather and we're talking about a very

sticky morning out there. look at this shot if you are ever watching us in high definition, you can take a look at this sunrise is beautiful. coming up over mount airy. looking towards the east. and unfortunately that sun is going to bring in the heat. and we're talking about a lot of heat today. starting out 83 downtown and annapolis is at 82. d.c. landed at 80 degrees. eastern shore, didn't get out of the 80s tonight. georgetown was at 82 degrees. we had two bands of showers and storms rolling through. one over philadelphia and that clipped parts of delaware and then we had another one over deep creek that slid towards the south. we were sandwiched in-between and just had a couple of clouds and some winds from the storms it's called on outflow boundary and in terms of temperatures today, with the humidity once again we're talking about a heat advisory in effect for the i-95 stretch, excessive heat watch in effect for the eastern shore. and then you go out to philadelphia and excessive heat warnings. so that's what's going on on satellite and radar. everything pressing to the

south nicely. nice clear skies over the state line. lansing and chicago all the way up to minneapolis. this cluster of storms what's called on mcs all right? these are big bands and balls of convection which are thunderstorms. if this drops down and holds together, we might have to address the idea of more storms in our forecast for tonight. we will be watching it and you have to keep it locked on channel 2 and also abc2news.com and our facebook will be updating during the course of the afternoon. let's talk about the heat. look at this blistering heat over the eastern third. today, going into tomorrow, triple digit heat. forecast for your afternoon 99 degrees your two degree guarantee. hot and humid. isolated storm in the afternoon. better shot of storms for tonight and we're gown down to around 77 degrees. seven day forecast looks like this. we're going to go for 97 tomorrow and a little bit of a cooldown then comes the heat. 101 for saturday. and maybe more numerous storms in the mix for sunday with the temperature falling back to about 95. the look at the abc2 timesaver traffic to the roads.

stop. maybe to 25 to 35. during lunch i do push-ups. >> trevino is already halfway there and so far he's raised nearly $10,000 for the wounded warrior project. great work. health news this morning about a million people are living with parkinson's here in the u.s. and 69-year-old bob is one of them. he's enrolled in a trial at cleveland clinic testing a new more consistent way to deliver a jell form of the same medication he's already using. >> the tube is inserted through the stomach. but the tube ends in the small intestines where the medications and also food nu trents are absorbed anyways so that the liquid gel is pumped continuously from an outside source. >> the pump supplies a more steady flow of the medicine so he doesn't experience a roller coaster of symptoms during a

day. according to dr. fernandez the most common side effect is stomach pain. that's understandable. the pump is still considered experimental and not available for general use but dr. fernandez expects it will be submitted to the fda for approval in the near future. summer can be fun but sometimes it can turn very dangerous as a result of summertime injuries. e. r. physicians have seen an increase in the number of patients each summer because of severe common or -- several common problems. by planning ahead you can always stay healthy. first, as always drink plenty of water and remain hydrated at all costs. you may also want to consider sipping sports drinks which contain electrolytes. foodborne illnesses is another culprit always wash your hands when preparing a meal and afterwards put the leftovers away in a dry sealed container. >> what's important to refrigerate things often in order retard the growth of bacteria and keep the food safe. >> it should be refrigerated

within two hours or one hour if it's above 90-degrees outside and overheating from too much sun always remains a very real threat. well, in the middle of the heat wave you may have reached for ice cream and you comeaway with a snowball or something out there to help cool you down. but you may have felt it with the dreaded brain freeze. doctors say here's what's happening. the frozen treat sends an icy blast tot nerve center in the roof of your mouth. the same nerve that detects pain in your forehead. >> when that very rapid cooling occurs, that disturbance is picked up by that nerve. >> okay, that's interesting. and doctor elizabeth loader says brain freeze is pretty common and speed descants. easy fix is to -- does count. easy fix is to eat or drink showily. mike masco chooses to have a cool glass of water before his ice cream. police say a hilt and run

thanks for staying with us. cecilia row is a mother this morning. her son, matthew cheswick was hit and killed over the memorial day holiday. if she had a chance to face the man driving that night she would do something most could not do. she tells us what it is. >> reporter: it's been just 37 days since matthew cheswick's death. but in that short time, his mother cecilia has done the unthinkable. summoning the strength to forgive the man police say ended his life. >> matthew wouldn't want me to hold a grudge.

and i know matthew has forgiven him. >> reporter: it is an incredible act following what she refers to as the tragedy. >> i'm closing these doors on pieces of matthew's life. but i can't close the doors on matthew's life because i don't want to -- i want to remember that he was a part of my life and that he did exist and he was a huge part of my life. >> reporter: a part that's been ripped away for good. matthew was killed memorial day weekend in ocean city while crossing coastal highway. police say diogo facchini hit him with his car and kept on driving. newly released documents showing the 30-year-old blew a .27 on an alcohol test. >> and i don't even know what to call it. you know it was more than an accident. it was more than irresponsibility. >> reporter: and the court agrees. facchini was arraigned this week on ten charges including negligent homicide by car, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of the accident. records show chilling details about the moments after the

crash. after ending up in a dead end surrounded by witnesses, police say facchini glass eyesied and smelling of -- glassy eyed and smelling of alcohol got out of his car and lit up a cigarette as matthew cheswick lay dying down the street. >> i blew him a kiss back and he did that and that -- image has been in my mind a lot. just -- just thinking of him with his happy face. the mention of him -- his happy sweet face. >> reporter: a smile that lit up a room. and a personality that proved even a life short on years can still make an impact when it is lived with kindness and a gentle heart. you know one of the friends -- >> you know one of the friends -- said to me that matthew achieved in his short life what other people don't achieve in a lifetime. and i think that kind of says it all. >> reporter: in howard county, joce sisterman, abc2 news. >> the friends have raised enough money now to buy a

memorial bench and now hoping to start a scholarship fund for him. awarding another child for someone who does an impact similar to what matthew did. find the information at the website abc2news.com if you'd like to donate. look for it under the investigators section. well, city police make a big bust in south baltimore. this happened on tuesday. police say a traffic stop and word from the street helped track down this man take a look. this is charles wilson. he's a suspected drug dealer. he's going to be charged with weapon possession and also he's going to be charged with trafficking. this is why. they found all of this in his house. $11,000 in cash, a number of weapons and three dirt bikes and of course they found the drugs. well, colorado's been a tippedder box for the past few weeks after -- tinderbox for the past few weeks after massive wildfires cutting thousands of acres of land down the side. but the concern this morning is not just colorado. wildfires barreling through a number of other states now as
